Alumni
Welcome to the Saltley Academy alumni network
Once a Saltley student, always part of the Saltley family. We are incredibly proud of our former students and everything they go on to achieve after leaving us at the end of Year 11.
Our alumni have taken many different routes: sixth form, college, apprenticeships, traineeships, university and straight into work. Today they work as nurses, pharmacists, engineers, teachers, accountants, software developers, electricians, police officers and business owners, in Birmingham and beyond. Our proud history goes back to Saltley Grammar School, whose former pupils include Michael John Wise, Professor of Geography at the London School of Economics from 1958 to 1983.
This page is your way to stay connected. Join our alumni network, share your news, and help today's students see what is possible for them.

Your information: we will only use your details to contact you about alumni and careers activities at Saltley Academy. We will never share them with third parties, and you can ask to be removed at any time.

Visiting the academy: all visitors sign in at reception and are supported by a member of staff. Saltley Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
Alumni career profiles
We would love to feature as many alumni career profiles as possible. Real stories from people who sat in the same classrooms show our students the wide range of routes into work, and help them make confident choices at Key Stage 4 and beyond.
Sharing a profile is one of the simplest ways to support our careers programme. It takes about 15 minutes and can be done by email. If you'd be happy to share your story with the Saltley community, past and present, please get in touch.
Career talks
Hearing what former students have gone on to do is a real inspiration for our pupils. A talk from you adds real-life experience to our careers programme and can make a big difference to a student who isn't sure which path is right for them.
Career talks take place during a morning assembly or at another time that suits you.
- Time: about 1 hour
- Group size: flexible, from one class (around 30 students) to a whole year group
- Support: our careers team will help you plan, and a member of staff is with you throughout
Ideas for your talk:
- Your route through education, training and work since Saltley
- Qualifications needed for your job
- The roles in your organisation and how teams work together
- Key skills employers look for
- Working hours, a typical day, and the challenges and rewards
- The best way into your industry for young people
- Your advice for students taking their GCSEs: hard work, aiming high, believing in yourself
Other ways to get involved
There are lots of ways to give back, whatever your time allows:
- Mock interviews: help Year 11 practise for college and apprenticeship interviews
- Work experience: offer a placement or workplace visit through your employer
- Mentoring: support a small group of students over a term
- Careers fairs and assemblies: join a stall or speak briefly to a year group
- Subject visits: show how a subject like maths, science or languages is used in your job
- Share our posts: follow and share our news to inspire others
